Tupu te reo, tupu te ora

Te Reo Tupu honours the ancient Te Roroa tangata whenua lines of descent from Tuputupuwhenua. 

Te Reo Tupu is an emerging reo Māori programme for Te Rorora tangata and Te Roroa whānau, which provides participants with the foundation and inspiration for subsequent years of learning te reo Māori. He whirinakitanga reo.

Te Reo Tupu is rooted in the distinct and rich identity of Te Roroa, fostering experiences of mana for the participants. 

Three pakiaka (roots); ‘tohu mana', ‘mahi whai mana’, and ‘kōrero whai mana’ will inform all aspects of the programme from which the shoots (ngā tupu) of reo will emerge.

Te Reo Tupu is grounded in the distinct and rich identity of Te Roroa, fostering experiences of mana for the participants.  The following three pakiaka will inform all aspects of design from which the shoots (ngā tupu) of reo will emerge

Kōrero whai mana

Narratives of distinct identity; storying the unique identity of place through forms such as kōrero-tuku-iho, waiata, whakataukī, whakatauākī, karakia.  These are the narratives created, embraced and perpetuated by tangata whenua. 

Tohu mana

Symbols and expressions of distinct identity; understanding the unique identity of place through naturally occurring features of the environment or creations, characteristics, patterns and expressions of tangata whenuatanga. 

Mahi whai mana

Practices of distinct identity; experiencing the unique identity of place through living relationship to kōrero-whai-mana, tohu-whai-mana and tangata whenuatanga.
