Wiremu Sarich - Pouako

Ko Wiremu Sarich tenei, he uri na Te Riu o Hokianga.  He pouako taonga taakaro ahau, he kaipoipoi rangatahi noki.  Koia nei aku mahi tuturu i roto i nga 10 tau kua taha ake ra, huri noa i te motu huri noa i te ao.  He nunui te mana whakaako to nga taonga taakaro hei whakaputa reehia,  kia  harikoa ai, kia tuu mataraharaha ai te hunga e kai ana i ona hua.  Hei taaku horekau he patu ko atu i a ia hei whakaako tangata, hakoa te kaupapa hakoa nga ahuaranga ako, he puna e kore mimiti tenei mea te taakaro.  Ko taku mahi i roto i te kaupapa nei ko Te Reo Tupu he whakawaha i nga tini kupu,  i nga tini korero I nga tini wananga na roto i nga taakaro kia whakaputa reo.  “Kia kawea tatou i te reehia i te harikoa i te mataraharaha.”

I am a Youth Educator who has spent the past 10 years extensively teaching traditional games throughout Aotearoa and abroad.  Traditional games have an amazing ability to make teaching/learning stress free.  In my humble opinion there is no greater tool for sharing knowledge regardless of the subject or complexity. There are endless possibilities for developing learning tools.  My role within Te Reo Tupu is simply to be a mouthpiece for the myriad of teachings Nga Taonga Taakaro have to offer, and to draw out conversation from our participants.  “Let us be carried away in the pursuit of joy and entertainment, with open and joyous hearts.”

Eamon Nathan - Kaiwhakahaere

Kia ora, ko Eamon Nathan tōku ingoa!  E ngākau nui ana au ki taku tangata whenuatanga, hoi anō tāku he hāpai i ngā kaupapa ā te iwi mā te auahatanga mā te whakamātau hoki.  He uri ahau nō Te Roroa, nō Ngāti Torehina ki Kaihu, nō Ngāti Ārera.

Weaving a passion for indigeneity, I prefer to play a ‘behind the scenes’ role in community growth through creative and experimental means. I am of Te Roroa, Ngāti Torehina, Ngāti Ārera, Crete, Scottish and Irish whakapapa, I’m passionate about leadership that shifts from assuming the sovereignty of humans to acknowledging the mana of nature to guide us through our time in this world.  I live in Whangārei with my partner and our four tamariki.  If I had more time I would play more music, try my hand at other creative practices, grow more kai, be more active (getting old and stiff quickly) and dedicate more time to understanding and living our inspiring and rich kōrero tuku iho.

Ngāriki Ngatae - Kaiwhakahaere

Kia ora, kia orana kōtou katoatoa. He Māori ahau nō Moananui-a-Kiwa.  Ko Tumutevarovaro, ko Araura Enua, ko Nukuroa, ko A’ua’u Enua ngā motu. Ko Ngāti Uri, ko Ngāti Ārera, ko Ngāti Rupe, ko Ngāti 'Akatauira ngā iwi.  Kei Te Taitokerau ahau mātou ko taku tāne ko ā māua tamariki hoki e noha ana.  He kaitito ahau i te ao kiriata me te ao tuhituhi.  I te tau 2012, ka noho au i runga i te waka hourua Marumaru Atua puta noa i te Moananui-a-Kiwa, e ono marama te roa.  He mea ārahi nōku e ngā āhuaranga taketake o te ao mārama, he ritenga, he tikanga me te wairuatanga. E kore tātou e ngaro, he kākano tātou i ruia mai i ra’iātea.

Kia ora, kia orana koutou katoatoa.  I am of Māori descent from nations within Moananui-a Kiwa on the islands of Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Mitiaro and Mangaia.  Ngāti Uri, Ngāti Ārera, Ngāti Rupe and Ngāti 'Akatauira are my tribes. I live in Te Taitokerau, Aotearoa with my partner and my four tamariki, and I am a storyteller in the realms of film and the written word. I voyaged at sea for six months on the waka hourua Marumaru Atua and in all my work I am guided by the narratives, ceremonies, healing, rituals and connections to spirit that come from my indigenous roots.  I am passionate about seeing Māori from across Moananui-a-kiwa reconnect and reclaim our rich collective history and identity as Māori, we are stronger together and all have much we can learn from each other.
